Note: A photographer I am not! the gold embossed tulips at the top of the card actually look like the bottom. Because of the reflection off the gold metalic cardstock, I had to angle the picture slightly and the top half of the tulips appear shadowed. Oh well...you get the idea!

Valentine Wrapper

It's a Wrap! Sort of following Selma's directions for the Joan's Garden challenge this week ( http://www.atjoansgardens.com/2012/02/fun-challenge-4.html ) I created this "yummy" candy wrapper. What I had on hand was a giant size Hershey chocolate bar, so I changed the dimensions of the wrap then had fun creating a "mood".

Outlines Hearts and Hearts #37

The challenge: http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com was fun this week to use hearts in a card. So, looking through my stash of stuff for hearts. The Outlies Jewel Heart formed the "jewel" of the card. I used a Spellbinder heart die to cut it out and glued it to a red foil doily (that I also cut using a Spellbinder heart shaped die). Cuttlebug's Heart Blocks embossing folder provided the dimensional template to glue small red metallic hearts (who knows where I got them lol!) These layers were then glued to a gold backer which in turn was glued to a card base. Oh yes, red and gold stickles were used to decorate the stamped image. Be My Valentine?

Outlines 36--Feeling Blue

Feeling like Blue? Outlines (http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/) challenge this week was to create a card using shades of blue as the primary color. Everything blue from the papers to ribbons to the self created blue flower except the base cardstock which is ivory as was the original color of the tags. For a friend who is "feeling blue with the sniffles", this card is a bit of blue cheer!

Through the Window

The challenge at Joan's Gardens (http://www.atjoansgardens.com/2012/01/joans-gardens-3-weekly-challenge.html) was to create a card with the following criteria:

Use a door or window or something similar
Use an out door type of stamp
Use a flourish
Use either an embossing folder or embossing powder

Well, I don't have one of those nifty window dies, so I thought about creating some sort of door. Then looking at my desktop I saw this picture I'd taken of my grandaughter a couple of weeks ago when we went to the OKC zoo. They have a viewing area that is a series of framed windows. Voila...a window! First I arranged the picture so that it would print at the bottom of the page. Once printed, I folded the card then carefully cut away the "glass" from the center frame around that cute little girl ( my grandaughter). Then using a piece of vellum, a Panda stamp by Great Impressions, and grassey twigs by Cornish Heritage Farms, I created an imaginary view of what she saw through the window. (Actually there were a few very pink flamingoes). I took a Spellbinders label and embossed "at the zoo" on the cut out vellum. Two twinkly black brads attached the label to to front of the card. For the flourish, I used a swag of black pearls....like the swag of a curtain perhaps?
Hmmm....I guess a rather different take on a window/door card, but one that will remind us of the fun day we had at the zoo.

Why oh why doesn't my camera (or is it the camera lady) show the colors of my card in actual color. Suffice it to say, the colors more closely resemble the colors in the Inspiration photo. And, what an inspiration...I decided to use the colors and use the "layout" option given in the challenge rules. I took the pillow and recreated its pattern, then added the oval "Dream Big".

Following a pattern my daughter saw on Pinterest, I crocheted this hat last week for my grandaughter. The ties end with small pom poms which really look cute up under a little chin.

Animal Hats seem to be the going craze in the crochet/knitting world. To make this monkey hat, I took bits and pieces from other hat patterns then just "winged" it. I have to admit the hat looks a lot cuter on my grandaughter than it does on the jar I put it on for the picture lol! Now I am trying to remember what I actually did, so I can write the pattern down and maybe make it again for my booth at the craft mall.

Day 4 of Clean and Simple Onlie Card Class featured a stamp with writing. I saw this stamp by Stampabilities while shopping at Hobby Lobby this weekend and had to have it. Then remembering one of the featured cards by Jessica Witty, I decided to make my own. I took it up one notch by embossing the stamp with white Zing on Vellum which I then mounted on a scrap magazine page. Really, I was using the page as work space cover when I thought the black, grey, and white image would be perfect for the vellum backing. This was then mounted on a grey cardbase. A Cherry Lynn die was used to cut the fushia colored foil cardstock which was adhered to the right half and using a Spellbinder die and Just Rite sentiment the card was quickly completed.

Outlines 34 Winter Wonderland

One of my favorite stamps from Outlines Rubber Stamps is this Snowman in a thicket or trees. The shadows make it feel like a late afternoon winter's day. A great stamp to use for this week's challenge http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/. I took the stamp and inked it with Memento Paris Dusk, then stamped it on a cardstock paper by SEI. I then embossed it with Zing clear embossing powder. Once set, I covered it with a dryer sheet and smoosched it with Art Institute Pearl glitter. Just like the setting sun glittering on the cold snow...except, unfortunately my photography skills just don't do justice to the "twinkle"...oh well! The snowman scene was layered using the "same" piece of paper and a sliver of silver foil paper. The whole was then mounted on a coordinating card base. So, even though the temperature here is supposed to be 70 degrees, I can look at a bit on winter!

The Clean and Simple card class lesson today identified Tone on Tone as a method of creating cards. When I see a tone on tone card, I'm always drawn to the beauty of the textures and layers people use. Today, I chose to work with "white". I used Cherry Lynn, Spellbinder, and Memory Box Dies, Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots embossing folder and Just Rite's rubber stamp for the sentiment. The sentiment is stamped in Dessert Sand Memento Ink.

The second day of Clean and Simple Cards and my goal continues to make one simple card for each class. Today was creating a "flat" card. Oh my...no layers? So following one of the examples I brought out the Tattered Angels Mist: Tattered Rose and Burnt Red. I haven't caught the knack of misting, so this was a good way to practice! Die Cuts (Cricut Wild Card) were used to create the masks for the border hearts and Hugs and Kisses. A Spellbinder Heart die was used to cut the heart from the front of the card. Inside I used a Hampton Arts "with love" stamp to provide the peek-a-boo interest through the cut out heart. Clean and Simple with pizazz.

Oh my goodness...today is the first day of an OnlineCard Class -Clean and Simple that I signed up to take. Today was the first class offering and the instruction for a simple sketch design was offered. Even thought the sketch was for a square card, I prefer rectangular ones so "simply" modified it lol!
The background stamp is a favorite of mine (especially for this time of year).called Raindrops and Swirls by Hero Arts. Amazingly I had a hand punch that matched the hearts in the swirls; and I also used a Spellbinders scalloped hearts die. Following the instructions, I masked the center of my pinkish card stock and stamped the background with Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid. I also used the Pearlescent Orchid to stamp the sentiment (With Love by PSX) which I then embossed with Clear embossing powder. Spellbinder hearts were cut from a peice of the cardstock that I colored using the Pearlescent Orchid Ink Pad...such a wonderful tip from the class. Lastly, I punched 4 hearts using scraps leftover from the Spellbinder cuts and applied them to each corner of the masked area. A Spica pen was used to outline both the hearts and the rectangular masked area.

It has been a weekend of yarnworks. I have become a fan of Mikeyssmail on youtube.. He gives wonderfly clear directions for creating stitches and patterns using crochet. This time however, he showed step by step how to create a baby hat using a 30 pin circle loom. With just a few missteps, I completed my first attempt even though it took a little longer than the 45 minutes he identifies. The yarn on this had is Bernat Pipsqueek - a wonderfully soft fuzzy yarn. Our winter has been fairly mild thus far, but when it finally gets cold some little head will stay warm!

Owl Candy Bar Wrapper

Caging an idea found (http://smallfryandco.blogspot.com/), and having some leftover (Christmas) giant size candy bars, I made these candy bar wrappers to sell at the local craft mall. At least if they are up there, I'm not tempted to take a few nibbles...lol! The Valentine stamp is from Stampassions and once stamped on a red punched heart, I used Sakura Crystal Effects to make it glosssy. Stickles glitter glue outlines the red heart. The rest is pretty much as you see...folded paper, circle punches, and heart punches. The tufted ears are simply scissor cuts at the corners. Stomach feathers are a Cuttlebug folder with sponged Memento ink. I have no idea what the name is and can't find it on the web...anyone know?

I still don't know the ending for this card. A sentiment to be added to the blank tag. I just couldn't decide. At some point I will need a card and "finish" it for the occassion. Anyway..I stamped one tag lightly, added a crochet flower that I used a Copic Marker to edge, I sponged ink around the edges of both tags and used several papers and layers to complete the layout of this card. A couple of ribbon pieces and a brad provided the finishing touches. The card front was then mounted on a white card base (and photographed against a black backdrop. The criterial At Joan's Garden for the the first challenge of the year: hearts, red, white, pink, and use of embellishments of some kind. I liked a card created by Maile Belles that I re-envisioned and made using the criteria for Joan's challenge.

I used Cuttebug Embossing Folder "Heart Blocks" to emboss a sheet of translucent vellum. A strip of white was embossed using Cuttlebug "Love Language combo". PSX Rubber Stamp"with love" was embossed using Zing gold embossing powder. Tiny pearls formed the central vein of the two May Arts ribbon green leaves. Layered on red and adhered to a white cardstock base, this card is ready for a special Valentine.

Outlines starts their year with a sketch challenge. The scallop border for some bewildering reason made me think of sideways hearts...so, I decided to create a card of "love". Quick like a bunny...no this is Christmas. But, quick was what Joan's Garden challenge was all about this week. Make a quick Christmas card...anything goes. How fun. What could be faster than taking an old Christmas card, making a window in a piece of paper, Stamping/Embossing Merry Christmas, tying a ribbon layering it in gold, adhering it to card stock base...done! What makes the image special is the technique of spraying it with adhesive, covering with a dryer sheet, and rubbing in glitter. Can you see the sparkle?

Outlines http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/ Challenge 30 is titled Shiny and Bright. Where oh where is there that association with something Christmas...song.. book... "Up On the Housetop", Night Before Christmas, or maybe just the sights and sounds of Christmas. But with those thoughts in mind, I made this card. How fun to use the double embossing (shiny) technique I saw on the Splitcoast Samping website. (Cornish Heritage red) How fun to emboss Outlines Rubber stamps with Zing glitter green embossing powder (bright). Then to color with copics and smother it with Crystal Effects (shiny)How fun to create a double white silk (May Arts) ribbon bow using my trusty Bow Easy tool. (Neither shiny or bright...but oh so satisfying). Put it all together with a little glue and done! A shiny and bright Christmas Card. May all who read this have a Shiny and Bright Merry Christmas!

Gift Card Holder-Outlines 27

Did you happen across http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/ this week? The challenge presented was to make a gift card holder using only their stamps. I love this cute little reindeer and chose him to be the focal point of this gift card holder. The holder itself is super simple...a 4" x12" strip of paper folded at 4 and 8 inches. Then at 6 inches fold in the opposite direction (valley/mountain folds). A slit is cut to hold te gift card (gold rectangle in second photo). Just because I wanted to, I mounted the whole gift card holder on a square of gold cardstock. The reindeer was finished using Copic markers and Stickles...this is such a perfect stamp for glittery accents! Ready for my 1st gift card recipient!

Christmas 63 for JustRite

Next year, I'm starting my Christmas cards in March! No really!! But, JustRite challenge 63 catches me this year just starting to "think" about making a cards for my mailing list.....fortunately my friends and family know me! This card started with a piece of neutral Christmas themed scrapbook paper. I thought it would be fun to layer a Christmas tree on it, and at the time I was using Spellbinders Flourish dies for another project and wondered if I chould change them into a tree. Voila! The white cardstock pieces swirled togeter to from a tree. Swarovski crystals (my favorite) become the glittering lights (I wish you could see the sparkle!) The tree base and corner pieces were colored with a Copic Marker. I embossed the "Merry Christmas" from JustRite's Merry Little Christmas set in white on a piece of the background paper. Set in among the "branches" it is the tree's only decoration. Some distressing (Antique Linen) was done around all the edges. Perfect! Now for the envelope and into the mail it goes!

Looking for ways to use rubber stamps other than cards?
After stamping the snowman on a piece of white cardstock, I cut it out and colored the bird red with a copic marker. The base paper strip was scored and molded around a color coordinating Tootsie Roll Pop. After gluing the paper to the Tootsie Pop, I attached the snowman to the front. A bit of yarn was used to make the snowman's scarf. Cute do you think?

With a couple of minor tweaks, I made the card my own. Mostly it was cutting papers to layer/stack. I'm learning to use Distress Ink more and I do like the way it changes the edges of paper.

Blue Wunter Headband

A little bit of a break from paper crafting/card making....and I crocheted this snug headband ...a perfect winter accessory for those who really don't like wearing hats. A selft crocheted button at one end fits into a loop a the other end (just can't see it in this picture). Look closely and you will see the "jewel" is the center of a fluffy crocheted flower. As some already know...I maintain a booth at a local craft mall. With winter winds ready to visit us in Oklahoma, this headband should help keep ears warm. The pattern for the headband is from Annie's Attic. The flower is from a mikeyssmail youtube video.

Outlines Challenge #25 http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/used a photo to provide inspiration to make a card. I must admit, this challenge did just that...challenged me. I've thought of using photo as a layout, a theme, but finally settled on using it as a color pallete. I also wanted to see if I could use the colors to make an "unusual" Christmas greeting. So here it is! Using Spellbinders Poinsettia and mega label (shaped card) , Cuttlebug swirls...some Copic Markers, distress ink, Stickles, silk ribbon, and an orange dewdrop, this card was crafted. I like the idea ofmaking the Happy Christmas as a tag to put under package bows! How many days until Christmas?

Winter White Gift Box

I love pizza, so participating in this week's challenge at http://www.atjoansgardens.com/2011/11/this-weeks-challenge.html - create a mini pizza box was "for me"! First challenge was to find a Christmas paer. I don't have much in the way of 12 x 12 that was stiff enough for a box...and my Graphic 45 is only 8 x 8 so.... I turned to my pad of - s.e.i - Winter song and used it for both the box and band. (I do love glittery images). Thanks to Selma, creating the box was easy to do. I made the flowers by pealing off the back layer of the paper, stacking small pieces of it together, and using Spellbinders Blossom 3 to create the flower layers. Glittery snowflakes were made from the remnants of the band using a Martha Stewart snowflake punch. A glittered brad was used to attach the scrunched layers. Flowers, a bit of white boa, and a spray of pearls were attached to the band. The end result....a winter white gift box.

Outlines Friendly Flight #24

When I read the criteria for this week's challenge at Outlines Rubber Stamp Company (http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/) I knew I finally had a "reason" to used this butterfly scrap. Would you believe the image is one that was "stamped" on a baby wipe. I had actually used the rubber stamp on a card, and had stamped it on a baby wipe to clean it. The resulting image was rather intriguing and so I dried and saved it. To make the card for the challenge, I painted the butterflies with Stickles and framed it with narrow stripes of black. The card base was embossed using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. Never let a good "scrap" go to waste!

Pretty in Pink! Using Outlines Stamps, this pretty in pink Poinsettia was embossed with Zing glitter black on watercolor paper, then colored using H2O shimmer paints and copic markers. Each layer was then carefully cut out and stacked. Stickles and Dew Drops create the center. The flower was then mounted on cardstock which was then wrapped like a package in satin pink ribbon. Pretty?

What a fun challenge from JustRite this time....create a card using leftover scraps. The only thing "new" on this card is the embossed (PSX Claret) " Merry Christmas" from JR's Christmas Nested Frames and Occassions set. (had to find a sentiment to fit the Spellbinder Fancy Label) I've been wanting to make a tissue flower like I'd seen on Becca's blog (www.amazingpapergrace.com) and had a piece of dusky gold tissue left over from unwrapping an internet order.... perfect. I cut out 3 sizes of Spellbinders Blossom 3 shapes and pierced them in the center and used a brad to secure. After fluffing the "petals", I secured a glitzy gold "button" on top of the brad. Leftover ribbon, silk leaves, a label I'd cut out at some time from a gold vellum like paper, a couple of pearls and dewdrops and the flower (of course) all were placed on a scrap of leftover Christmas wrapping paper. The whole was then attached to a red(ish) card base. ooops..the card base is new too!

Now, one additional picture...when I read Sharon's comment and picture of her workspace I had to laugh....Nooo...my workspace rarely looks that neat. Mine is more like "mad crafter" at work and I always seem to have my helper to contend with. So, here is my work space....

Cards in a Box

Card Gift Box

The box was handmade using two pieces of cardstock. Pieces of the lace were cut and adhered to the top and sides of the box. A floral accent, cardboard swirl pained with Mica Gloss, Spellbinders Ribbon/Tags and Just Rite Alphabet stamps were used to complete the box.

Card Box Top

The lace provided a perfect background to decorate the top of the box I’d made in which to store the cards. With spray adhesive I placed the lace in rows to cover the top and sides of the box. I then decorated it with a chipboard swirl painted with coordinating Mica Gloss paint and a flower from my silk flower stash. A ribbon tag was made (Spellbinders) and stamped with the word “Cards” (JustRite Stamps). Now you know what is inside the box!

The Cards

This photo is the group of cards made specifically for this May Arts Ribbon challenge. Ribbon supplied for the challenge is draped over the Rose Quartz rock. Other May Arts Ribbon was used on a couple of cards to further enhance the card.

Sentimental Lace Card

I wanted the lace to be the focal point on this card. A soft muted background paper was chosen in a complementary color to showcase the lace. A rosette of lace was made and affixed to the band of lace. May Arts Silk Ribbon was used to create a soft bow that was centered in the rosette. The sentiment (JustRite Stamps) was stamped and embossed directly on the background paper. Several pearls were used to accent the card

Happy Birthday

For this card I used pieces of the 3/8” double sided ribbon to create a double layered flower. The Bottom layer showcases the green/pink side; the top layer highlights the blue. A dotted centerpiece was adhered the middle of the flower. Paper chosen for this card was selected for its color coordination with the ribbon. Contrasting paper added a decorative stripe and Dew Drops provided additional dimension. Happy Birthday ( Hero Arts rubber stamp) was direct stamped and embossed (Zing Embossing Powder) on the colorful background paper.

Summer Elzybels

A favorite stamp ( Elzybels) was used to enhance the May Arts stripped ribbon used on this fanciful card. Against a background of coral embossed (Cuttlebug folder/clear embossing powder) Elzybels in handing how jeweled flowers. Keeping her grounded is May Arts ribbon which stretches across the card. An additional piece of May Arts Ribbon was twisted to create a flower that sports a jeweled center. Butterflies are May Arts ribbon pieces that were individually colored to provide color variations from the original red.

Flight

May Arts ribbon was used in layers to create the 4 quadrants of this card. Each section is decorated with either Dew Drops, Rub Ons, or Spellbinder die cuts. They center is anchored with a Spellbinders oval and scalloped oval. The oval was stamped (Inkadinkado) and colored with Prima pencils. An additional piece of May Arts ribbon was used to create a swirled flower bud which highlights the ovals. A handpunch was used to create holes in each individual scallop.

Everywhere Butterflies

I made this card with the intention of highlighting the butterflies which were in the ribbon May Arts provided for this challenge. May Arts Butterflies against a dark green shimmer May Arts Ribbon were used to divide the two coordinating papers in which butterflies abound. The center in a gold embossed butterfly (Holly Berry rubber stamp) layered and layered again (Spellbinders). A perfect all occasion card.

Red and White Christmas

This week Joan's Garden challenged us to make a red and white Christmas card with a sentiment and some kind of "light". I challenged myself to keep to the red and white without additional colors and for my light, I used a translucent vellum that I both dry embosed (cuttlebug folder) and wet embossed with (white pearl) and red. I hope that can be counted as "light". I folded the vellum into a Gatefold Card held together with a big red bow. Untie the big red bow (May Arts silk ibbon) and the inside of the card is simply stamped( on white cardstock)/embossed (using a cinnamon smelling red embossing powder (Cornish Heritage Farms)...It really does give off a cinnamon fragrance....mmmmmm..... The Stamp is by Great Impressions.

Hooray! I've got one Christmas card made...I'll write a personal note inside and it will be ready to mail when the time comes. I'll just have to figure out to whom I'll send it lol!

Outlines 22 Birthday Bash

What a fun challenge Outlines issued...to create a Birthday card using only Outlines Stamps! Uh oh....I somehow don't have their "Happy" word stamp...think think think....So, I created my own Happy image by stamping the Birthday Stamp several times then cutting out the appropriate letters and gluing them in the frame. All stamped images were embossed using Zing Black Glitter embossing powder. Images were clored using a combination of Copic Markers, Stickles, and Liquid Pearls. To further the Happy Birthday theme, I created the backgroiund paper by making a word document of "HappyBirthday", then printing it on a piece of patterned cardstock. A green brad attaches the "happy" and Birthday pieces together. What is left to say? Well, Happy Birthday!

Cats and Pumpkins JR60

Greetings from th Pumpking Patch. I began making this card by taking a piece of cream cardstock and using the Cuttlebug Embossing folder. I next swiped the image with Versamark watermark and wet embossed it with pearl embossing powder. Next, a spellbinder pumpkin ws cut out of the center. Meanwhile, I had stamped/embossed the cat in the pumpkin image on a goldenrod colored piece of vellum. Prisma pencils were used to color it. Once colored, I flipped it over and used my embossing tool to "pop" it out. (tiny circular strokes). A piece of gold cardstock was attached to the back, and the whole was attached behind the pumpkin cut out. The cat is a spellbinder die cut with a tiny piece of the vellum attached behind the eyes. Lastly, Scaredy Cat was embossed on a piece of gold cardstock, cut out with a Spellbinders and attached to the base with two glitter black brads. I created the "frame" by layering black and gold cardstock and using an exacto knife to cut the slots. Finally ready to finish the sketch design, I layered May Arts ribbon (ivory silk, gold sheer green leaves, and pumpkins) Tiny Swarovski jewels (jade opal) were scattered along the vine/leaves. Whew! done...I hope you enjoy!

Outlines Challenge 21 Halloween Sequel

This Outlines stamp has so many possibilities, especially for Fall and Halloween creations. I embossed in gold the image on black. Then I used Stickles and Crystal Lacquer to add dimension. Can you see the green eyes and pink nose? Mounting Miss Kitty on layers of Spellbinders Label 18 provided a framework for finishing the card, I chose a pale orange cardstock for my base, covered it with a piece of fine black lace and added a stripe of May Arts black silk ribbon.

Decorated Bag

Thursday challenge at Joan's Garden is to create a decorated gift bag using pumpins, leaves, and words. Of course if you add ribbons, ghosts, cardstock, paper, brads and use stickles and distress inks, you can create the bag I made above. The "unique" feature is the "gift within a gift bag gift" On the front of the bag is a Halloween card I made. (The envelope is tucked inside the bag). The card is lightly attached to the bag, so it can be removed and used. The card is one that was featured at the fall workshop at Fond Memories at the Creamery in Walnut Grove, Mn.. What do you think?

Nature's Beauty

Wouldn't you just love to take a walk and find out where this path takes you? Somewhere in Colorado, my brother and his wife found this beautiful spot. A photograph resulted that was then shared with me. When I saw the guidelines for this weeks challenge at Joan's Garden (http://www.atjoansgardens.com), I knew I wanted to take this photo and incorporate it into a card. The challenge was to incorporate a piece of nature (photograph), a border (jeweled rectangle), glitter (across top of card), and layers (photo, white,black, cardbase) A cuttlebug embossing folder was used to create the dimension on the card base. Art Institute Black Holographic glitter was used to emboss the Just Rite Stamp sentiment and the strip across the top- so much prettier than the picture shows. A special moment in time has been captured first in a photograph and now in a card.

Fall Festival Just Rite 59

Oh the sights and smells of fall; fields plump pumpkins, juicy apples, decorating for Thanksgiving with Indian Corn...I love this time of year! I chose to use Just Rite's Autumn Blessings set to create a mobile which is my entry into Just Rite's Fall Festival Challenge. I scoured my back yard for a fallen "twig", a few acorns, and used May Arts Ribbon, Art Institute Glitter, Spellbinders Ovals, Gold Cardstock, Gold cord, Acetate, and Staz-on Ink. A Paper Shapers punch, a couple of leaf brads and an apple seed or two were also used. My dad identified, Fall is a season of change. With those words in mind, I made my mobile medallions "change" from an image stamped on gold cardstock then with a whisper of air current "change" to the same imaged stamped on acetate which was colored with glitter. When I am not crafting, I spend a lot of time on my enclosed front porch reading or crocheting; this mobile will be placed there for friends and family to enjoy.

Boxed Birthday Card

This week Joan's Garden issued a challenge to make a "purple" birthday card with a 3-D embellishment that could be presented in a box following Selma's direction. Easier way to explain it all is to just visit her website here: http://www.atjoansgardens.com/2011/09/this-weeks-challenge.html Thanks Selma for directions that were fantastically easy to follow (at least I made a box!). What fun to decorate in theme (purple) - a perfect way to present a special card. Almost square, but not quite, the card fits snugly in the below pictured box. The background paper is some I made using black glossy cardstock and Luna Lights Paints. Crystal swirls, 4 pices of ribbon (don't forget to cound the light lavendar May Arts Silk ribbon beneath the white lace), A very 3D shades of purple flower (every picture I took the purples turned out pink...I don't know why???) and some lavendar Zing embossing powder to heat emboss the Just Rite Happy Birthday Stamp and the card is done.

The box was made following Selma's directions then completed byframing a flower, Heartfelt die cut -Swirl, a few dewdrops on a ModPodge enhanced doily.

Plastic with a Repurpose! A JustRite Challenge57

Repurpose a 2nd time! I had just received a new Spellbinder die this morning and thought I'd use the plastic casing for a "acetate" card. After cutting the top, bottom and right side of the case to card size. Repurpose some more?? Well, I'm taking care of a beloved 10 month old grandaughter. That means baby wipes on hand lol! I did modify the "repurpose" and used a brand new one... I too the JR Quiet Moments stamp and stamped it on the wipe. After it had dried out just a bit, I colored (with a very light hand) it with Copic markers, then cut it out. Back to the card.... I used a small frame stamp from JR cling set and stamped a background over the front of the card. Next I positioned the baby wipe picture and taped it down. ....To hide the tape on the inside, I repurposed magazine pages that I cut in circles just the same size as the stamp's moon. and matched them on the front inside and the card inside and back. On the inside circle.will be my greeting message. I can't say the flowers, dew drops, ribbon, or Swarovski crystals are "repurposed", but they are leftover from other projects...does that count?

Repurposed Can Lid

The JustRite Challenge this week was to repurpose a household item into something else. I was opening a can of tomato paste, but any can lid would do. Using my cricut I cut paper circles to fit inside the inner rim of the lid. I cut a second circle and then a third just the size of the JustRite stamp. I then filled the lid with Crystal Effects and outlined the rim with stickle. Now comes the uh oh part. After the Crystal Effects had dried for a couple of days and the image was clear, I wanted to glue a piece of sparkly ribbon to the back. To ensure contact between the lid and the ribbon I placed my JustRite block on the lid. In the morning I went to remove the block and it was stuck! OH NO! What to do? I took my heat gun and working carefully heated and gently removed the stuck surface. It wasn't smooth anymore ... so sad!. Turn lemons into lemonade? I took the heat gun and reheated the surface. Little bubbles formed and now it looks iced! But terribly hard to get a good picture....sorry. Anyway, reusing a can lid opens up all sorts of possibilities....I will use this one as a Tag....stamping To:/From on the back, but it could be turned into a magnet by gluing a magnet disc on the back, or an ornament, or......

The bright summer colores are fading to muted shades, Monarch butterflies are heading south, fall flowers are budding, and leaves begin to acquire their colorful coppers, yellows, and browns. Picture This 16 Butterfly on Sunflower

Outlines challenge this week ( http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com) was to incorporate a picture in your design. I'd recently seen a technique that took multiple copies of a photograph and used them to create a mock "iris fold" card. This sunfower grew from a seed knocked out from a birdfeeder and seemed perfect to use it to create my challenge entry. Lots of time later, the Outlines butterfly was stamped on yellow and cut out, wings folded up and glued to the photo frame. The layers of the flower and the layers of the frame were attached to a white cardbase that had been embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

JustRite's challenge this week was to create a Shabby Chic card. Feminine, weathered and worn. So off I headed to my old stash of stuff....Feminine: the ribbon roses I made accented with pearls; the weathered and worn: sanded embossed Core'dinations. Framed with eyelet lace and mounted on additionally embossed/sanded Core'dinations before attaching to a card base. The Just Rite stamp Thinking of You was stamped on a piece of shabby Annalee paper, then torn following the circular border.

Bordering a Pumpkin

Borders along the top, sides, bottom??? Just Rite challenge 015 is to incorporate Beautiful Borders. I decided it was time to visit te Pumpkin Patch to create this shaped card. The largest Spellbinders pumpkin die was used to create the card base. (I traced around it and cut it out to make it 1/4" larger than the largest die). The first layer was the largest die used on vellum. An outlines border vine stamp was used to stamp around the "border" of the pumpkin, then colored with Copics and enhanced with Stickles. The next largest pumpkin die cut a piece of orange cardstock with was then "bordered"/distressed. with Stampin Up Sage ink. The final step was to use Outlines Jewel It Pumpkin 3 times, cut layers, coat with Crystal Effects, apply Swarovski crystals and color the stem with Copic markers. Does this pumpkin card border on pretty?

Patterned Paper Hummingbird

At Joan's Garden we were issued a challenge to create a card following the technique demonstrated by Heidi Blankenship: stamping on patterned paper. Off I went to thumb through my million (probably) sheets of paper. I chose this subtle floral flourish and paired it with a Sizzex embossing folder, Tapestry Stamps, Heartfelt Creations Hummingbird Stamp, and May Arts sheer ribbon. Inks from Memento and Stampin up were used. The Hummingbird was stampe on vellum. the image was colored with Copic markers, then flipped over and dry embossed to add dimension. Kaiser craft pearls were used to embellish the frame. What a difference from the original piece of patterned paper!

Tranquil Butterfly

Sadly, I needed to make a special Sympathy card. I had been drawn to a beautiful card made by Selma Stevenson (http://selmasstampingcorner.blogspot.com/search/label/Mica%20Gloss) and when friend suggested I make it...I did. A beautiful young lady is now "free" as a butterfly and no longer suffers. I hope this card reflects her beauty and evokes a feeling of peace.

Black Cat Highlight

With the expectation that fall and Halloween is just around the corner, I chose to take Outlines Spooky Layering Collage and highlight the black cat on the fence. Image was stamped on gray cardstock then cut apart and repositioned on a piece of pumpkin orange cardstock. The black cat on pumpkins as highlighted using Sakura Crystal Effects. A black ribbon was added then the whole was placed on a gray card base. A "spooky" four legged friend!

A Bunch of Blizzard Tags-056

It is so exciting to have the JustRite Challenges return! This time (#056) we are challenged to create a shaped card or tag. My newly arrived Blizzard Bunch Set beckoned and as I couldn't choose which image to use, I decided that I would make each into a tag. As you will see, each tag "stars" : not only a JR Blizzard Bunch image, but also highlights a cardmaking technique. Each tag was finished with either a silver back or a gold one upon which is stamped a JustRite Christmas greeting. These took "forever" to do, but it was fun to "relearn" different technidques. Summertime Outlines

Summertime with butterflies zipping around is the image I chose to create for this weeks challenge at http://www.outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com./ The temperatures have been so high here, I chose a color combination that I hope reflects the "hot". Images were colored using Prisma pencils. Flowers images were stamped on the white circle, then a second image as stamped, colored, cut out, and "popped" on top of the first image. The butterfly was colored, cut out, wings folded up and then glued to the paper.

All about circles was the theme of this months Unity Challenge. A stamp from their July 2011 Kit of the month "triggered" the memory that I had paper that almost matched. A hunt through the paper stash finally unearthed it and got busy with my paper cutter. Circles and circles.

Key Lime Butterfly

On a white cardstock base, the main color of this card are shades of lime green accented with black. Outlines Rubber Stamp challenge this week featured an inspiration photo that resulted in this card. Starting with a figured greenish/tannish cardstock piece, I smeared it with embossing liquid then heat embossed a Zing lime green powder. I inked with Memento Outlines flutter butterfly then pressed it into the heated embossing powder. May Arts ribbon was used to make the bow and a couple of dew drops anchor the upper corners

Pop-Up Gift Card Holder

Following Grace's detailed tutorial ( http://www.th-ink-ingofyou.blogspot.com/ ) was the challenge

spotlighted at Joans Garden. Grace Nywening provided a detailed tutorial that walked you through the creation of a fabulous pop-up gift card holder/card. Hooray for my Scor-Pal which allowed me to create the mountain and valley folds that created the clever pop-up which was then attached to the inside of the base card. At 109 degrees outside, I just was't motivated to go procure a "real" gift card to insert in the holder, but I did have a bit of gold cardstock and a scrap of paper left over from the card decorating process...so ....
To decorate the card, I used 2 coordinating papers from the Melody Ross Homespun designer collection.
Stamps used were Heartfelt Bella Rose and Hero Arts (Happy Birthday embossed with PSX Claret ). Bella Rose Die Cut and Cherry Lynn die cuts were used along with a Martha Steward butterfly punch. May Arts sheer ribbon, dew drops and stickles on the butterfly punches were used to further embellish this gift card presentation. Thank you Grace and Joan.

Rock Me

I guess I come by my fascination with rocks as a natural outcome of growing up with a geologist father! This card is for him. He "rocks" as a dad and gave me an appreciation for all that is 'nature'. So naturally I have rocks in my yard and with camera in hand snapped a picture of my dry river bed. Then Unity Stamp Company's July stamp kit had a rocking chair and a "you rock" verbage. Wouldn't you say it was a natural pairing? I used my river rock picture as the background paper for the card after first mounting it on a gold foil paper. The rocking chair and gold frame was cut using Spellbinders ovals. The chair oval was edged with a marker, dusted with a blue chalk (Pebbles) and accented with Stickles (stars). "You Rock" was free hand cut then treated the same as the chair piece. Blue silk ribbon (May Arts) and raffia provided the horizontal elements and a tiny rock was used as an accent in the middle of the knot.

Christmas in July is the theme of Outlines' Blog challenge (http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com). I am absolutely enamoured with Outlines' Jewel It line o rubber stamps and this angel is one of my favorites. She sets the "peace" of the holiday season and the card says cooool with Cuttlebug snowflakes embossed on Coor'dinations two toned card stock. Here I used black backed by blue. The blue snowflake was made with a Spellbinders die. The Angel was stamped on a gold paper, then embellished with Swarovski crystal for her head and Stickles for her dress. I mounted the whole a piece of silver before attaching it to the blue card base. A finishing touch was added: I sprayed the card with an adhesive (Craft Bond) then sprinkled "snow" Flower Soft. With the hot Oklahoma Temperatures we have been experiencing; I was ready for a little Christmas in July!

Gift Card Holder for Baby

In a previous post, I made a "cap" with dangling mittens. (Original cap tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.com) A friend noted that it could easily be changed to a baby version if I changed the mittens to booties. Having a bit of muslin left over from a previous card challenge project I wondered how it would look if I took Lana's technique ( see below link) beyond flowers..... so, "variation on a theme" ! The booties (PSX) I stamped on the prepared muslin fabric, colored them with Prisma pencils and laboriously cut them out! The muslin cardstock cap takes its color and design following Lana's technique of spritzing the embossing folder with color (Tattered Angels here) which I then ran through my Cuttlebug. For the band across the cap, I cut out images from Nana's Nursery (paper), which I also used for "inside" the cap. A bit of leftover yarn was used to create the pom pom that tops the cap. Also used was a piece of lace ribbon by May Arts, and a bit of coordinating ribbon. The picture doesn't show, but I stamped a "to/from" image on the back of the booties. Won't this make a cute way of presenting a gift card to an expectant mother at a baby shower!

******Beanie Cap Gift Holder

Looking for a cute gift card/money gift holder? This one may suit you! A friend directed me to the following web site http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/beaniecap

for directions. I made the beanie following Carolina's directions, then was afraid people where I live wouldn't recognize it as a hat (Winters are fairly mild and hats aren't often worn), so I created a pair of mittens tag (Spellbinders Mittens), made a yarn pompom, and replaced the eyelet with a small brad. Texture on the hat was done passing the half circles and strips through the Cuttlebug: Damask folder for the hat, Swiss dots for the brim. If you look very carefully behind the pompom, you might be able to see a small loop of ribbon I added in order to hang this gift holder from the Christmas tree. I stamped "To:" and "From:" on the backs of the mittens and used a scrap piece of yarn to attch them to the cap's second brad. What do you think?

************Sweet Cupcake

Outlines Rubber Stamp Company issued a challenge to incorporate a sweet treat into our design. The stamp used is the large Cupcake Square. A cuttlebug embossing folder (Happy Birthday) was used to emboss a piece of Core'dinations black/lime green cardstock. After the embossing process, the raised images were sanded off to reveal the hidden green color. Using Copic markers in the shades of pink, lavender, peach and green, I colored the stamped image. A bit of glitter was added by gluing Swarovski crystals to the design. Two images were stamped and the cupcake was cut from one and "popped" using a pop dot. Once the cupcake square was mounted on the embossed piece of cardstock, May Arts sheer ribbon (pink and green) were tied around in a knot. A flower (Petaloo) was placed d in the center of the knot. The total layers was then affixed to a piece of silver cardstock which was then attached to a cardbase of light green cardstock that was sponge stamped with a dark green (Memento) around the edges. Happy Birthday!!!

Muslin - uhm ???, but that was a key "ingredient" at Joan's Garden tutorial challenge. I am always interested in learning new techniques, so off I went to see if I could find a piece of muslin. (I miss that our local Wal-mart no longer carries fabric). But fortunately our senior center quilting ladies let me have a scrap or two. With fabric in hand, I dug out my jar of ModgePodge and went to work. Lana Edwards' tutorial featured muslin, embossing folders, ink and cardstock. I added ribbons, pre-made flowers, pearls, dewdrops, crystal flourish, silk leaves, and a recycled piece of lace cello (I'd saved it from something I got), image from decoupage book, and... Following Lana's directions I cut shapes from Splllbinders Blossom 3 and leaves. I spritzed color on the Swiss Dots embossing folder and ran the muslin images through my Cuttlebug. For the leaves I used the tire track looking folder (leaf veins?). Wanting a bit more color and shimmer, I then used Pebbles chalks to further color the die cuts. Now to make the flower. Recently I had come across a you tube video from Sherry Cheaver that taught how to make this three dimensional flower. Once the flower was made (cut, shape, roll, glue) and I'd cut the image of the Victorian Lady from: The Victorian Scap Gallery book by Dee Davis and Gail B. Cooper. (Thanks Mom for the book!), it was time to put the card together. I mounted the lady on a piece of paper from (oh gosh, I don't know) and framed it with a brown cardstock. Ovals were cut using my Cricut. She was positioned on the "lace" covered green cardstock and that combination was then mounted in the light green card base. Next, I used bits of May Arts mulberry colored sheer ribbon to roll a couple of roses. Then (whew) it was time to construct the card. The muslin flower and leaves were placed on the card and enhanced using the other flowers, ribbons, pearls, and dewdrops. The final touch was the placing the crystal flourish and pearl drop in the upper right hand corner. Done!

My sincere thanks to Lana and Joan's Garden for this challenge. What fun to use the new technique to create this card!

A friend recently told me about a new/old technique of placing color around a white embossed image. You place your color medium (waterbased) on a slick surface, spritz with water, then transfer the color to the embossed design area, In this card, I used watercolor paper for the embossed stamped image and used distress inks for the tapped color. Stamed image was embossed with Zing black/glitter and is from Stampabilities. A button enhanced Bazzill flower duo was used to add a bit of dimension to the card. Except for dirty fingertips, this was a fun card to create.

Oh! if only you could see the sparkle! Outlines Rubber Stamps challenge is to combine use of their stamps with polkadots. Looking through my paper stash, I found a black and white polkadot paper which became a scalloped circle after I used Spellbinder's Scalloped Circle die. I then cut the circle in half and mounted it on a sheet of black, silver and white lined with dots (which are raised and sparkly) paper. That was mounted on a larger sheet of white and the whole was mounted on a card created using black cardstock. (inside is layered with a piece of very light paper upon which you can write/stamp a sentiment)...Spellbinders scalloped oval and plain oval pieces were cut using white and black paper. The fabulous Outlines Rubber Stamp (ribbon) was embossed with silver on the black oval. Swarovski Crystals were glued in the designated areas of the stamp. Lots of polkadots :) - a polkadotted red voile ribbon was used to add a punch of color. What does this card "say" to you?

Outlines Bleached Tulips

Outlines Rubber Stamp Company challenge: http://outlineswithkathy.blogspot.com/ gave me the incentive to use a Bleach It Or Not stamp to create a card using the Bleach technique. I stamped the image on a dull red cardstock that I had then used Spellbinders dies to cut out ovals. A bit of torn edges, a corner rounder punch, and a couple of layers then completed this card. I'm still thinking of adding a bit of bling...but for now......

Swarovski Crystal Cat

Well, it may be 98 degress outside at 7:30pm ...soooo hot! A perfect time to think of Halloween coming...cooler weather for sure! Outlines Rubber stamps has a Keep it Krafty challenge - use Kraft paper as a focal point of the card.along with an Outlines rubber stamp. I took a couple of my favorite Outlines stamps and began. Using Spellbinders ovals, I created the frame for the stamped, embossed in gold, and jeweled (swarovski crystals)Cleopatra Jewel cat. A little bit of Stickles was used to accent the round crystals in Cleopatra's ears and eyes. Then I took a piece of Kraft paper and wrinkled it by wadding it in a ball. I pealed it open, lay it flat, and stamped the large Spooky Layering Collage stamp. I pop dotted the cat frame on the stamped kraft paper, mounted that on a black paper, and mounted thw whole on the Kraft paper card. now.....just waiting for Halloween!

PolkaDot Flower

A wonderful challenge from The Shabby Tea Room sponsored by Joan's Gardens; with inspiring colors of pinks and lime green, and I was ready to look around my craft room for appropriate "stuff". I used pink and green polk-a-dot papers, a piece of green and pink gingham (look closely) ribbon, a pink polk-a-dot flower and a lime green one that I co-joined and then added a center made from the ribbon; "warm wishes" stamp from Amuse Artstamps and Flourish stamps from Heartfilelt creations. Stickles (cotton candy) was used to add dimension to the flourish. I hope I'm invited to help eat the cupcakes!

............."recycled" New Happy Birthday

There was "something" about the tile card I made several weeks ago that just didn't please me. Naturally I decided to tweak it/fix it. Only the "tile" remains after the teardown/salvage. This is the new design. Using Just Rite stamps and May Arts Ribbon, some FlowerSoft gold braid, Art Institute glitter, and a bit of bling and a couple sheets of cardstock were items used. I first stamped/embossed the Just Rite flower image on a piece of cardstock, then cut it into 9 one inch squares. A tiny just rite stamp was used to create a "background" around the floral image. Glitter was applied and squares were reassembled to form the whole flower. Adding a bit of this and that, making the ribbon rose, and voila, the card came together.

A Little Bit of Romance (basket)

A fun challenge was issued at http://www.atjoansgardens.com/. Guest designer Sue Walsh (http://a-consuming-passion.blogspot.com challenged us to use her tutorial to create our own similar project. Using the provided heart shaped basket template, I started by using shiny gold cardstock as my basket base. Then it was off searching my "stash of stuff" to find decorative elements. I used: silk ribbon (to create the lavender rose), glass beads, white and purpose pearls, paper flowers, and laces. Lots of glue and sticky fingers later, my basket it done. A sweet little gift bag, I think.

Challenge Box

Oh! what a great challege/tutorial that is at Joan's Garden. Her garden blooms with flowers. The challenge was to take a regular piece of typing paper and following the directions create a hammered metal look. Instead of a cigar box which was highlighted in the http://glendabrooks.blogspot.com/2011/06/very-first-guest-designer-for-joans.html%20l tutorial (which I didn't have) I repurposed an empty Schwan's box. Instead of white typing paper, I had a piece of black and used silver, frosty blue, and a touch of pink Luna Lights paint (didn't have any reinkers!) I love the resulting look! Next was to create a paper flower - the tutorial used Spellbinders, ah ha! so I did too. After spraying color on the dozens of petal layers, I pierced them with a pearl brad. The rest was box top decoration. I wanted a simple/classic elegance which I tried to create using pearls, white roses, and a lace headband. Lace headband? Yep, that is what I am going to store in my new box!

Umbrella at the Beach

What, No stamping?? No, this stairstep card (instructions on Splitcoast Stampers) was made using squares of May Arts ribbon. The squares were folded, folded, and folded again to create the triangular shapes that a beach umbrella has. Torn sandpaper sprinkled with flowersoft created the sandy beach, while copic markers and a cloud mask created the ocean/sky. Shells found at the beach were used to embellish the card and I took a relaxing shortcut and used a label maker for the word "relax"...simple!

Graduation Cards

Thank you Megala3178 Splitcoast card maker from whom I copied this cards layout... Two for the price of one at Graduation time. Using cutouts from the Graduation Announcement, I created these cards for my two graduating grandsons. How glad I was to find a piece of graduation paper in my card stash! The 2011 are cricut cutouts. I used Circle nestabilities for the red and black emblem backgrounds, a border punch and 3 brads to complete the cards. What, no stamping on this card? Well....you'd have to look inside for the congratulations graduate! The world awaits them!

****JustRite055 Floral Blue

Oh what a challenge! Light -Medium Blue, Ivory, and Tan. with accents of brown and/or black.hmmm.... I didn't have any of the copic markers,..I only had one piece of paper that seemed to match the blue, and I didn't have the stamp set (yet) that I wanted to use. So, I thought and thought. I took the floral stamp from Just Rite's Beautiful Blossom Set and stamped it in Blue on a medium blue piece of cardstock. Carefully using an exacto knife I cut the floral image out and off-set it just a bit. I backed the cutout area with a pearlized ivory paper and used a bit of ivory Liquid Pearls to color the centers of the flowers and the bow. Then I set myself to work and made a bunch of of paper flowers, used punches to punch out leaves and butterflies, used pearl dewdrops, swarovski crystals, and a rhinestone swirl (always need a bit of glitz) and created the finished card. Tan cardstock was used for the card base with coordinating tan an blue cardstock accents. May Arts ivory silk ribbon creates a beautiful finishing bow. Lots of detail on this card! Oh, I forgot the accent of feathers!

Her school colors are Black, Royal Blue, and White. I cut out parts of the Graduation Announcement and used them in the construction of her special graduation card. Silk Ribbon, Swarovski crystals, and layers of peper were used to make the finished card. The background was made using double sided adhesive paper covered with a piece of lace to which black glitter was liberally applied. After removing the excess glitter, the lace piece was removed and tiny glass beads were applied to the remaining sticky area. The glitter and beads create the background lace effect.

I love the expression "Dragonfly Dreams" and for this squared off Just Rite Challenge I combined lots of my favorites: glitter and flowers. Did I mention glitter? I started by cutting 9 inch pieces of cardstock. Pushed together, I then stamped and embossed JustRite's flower image from their Plant a Little Love Set. Background around the flower was made by using the tiniest stamp from Just Rite's You Inspire Me Set and Memento ink colors. To color the flower, Art Institute glitter was applied to each individual leaf and petal.
The squares were then applied to a backing sheet and trimmed with gold strips and corner embellishment (Flower Soft). Dragonfly Dreams was stamped using 15 pt Just Rite Special Occassions set- Does anyone else have as much fun as I do lining up all those tiny letters :) ? Silk flowers were spaced along a wide ribbon and attached to the card. Dragonfly Embellishments finalized this card. With graduation in mind, it is my hope this card will inspire the recipient to dream big as she flies to her future.

   A favorite JustRite stamp ensemble of mine is Quiet Moments and I chose bits and pieces of it to create my card. I began by stamping and masking... stamping and masking the long branch with flowers; stamping, cutting and coloring with Copics the little girl; stamping and cutting from vellum,two sets of wings; stamping, cutting and coloring an extra bow; and making 25 little 3d flowers using Spellbinders Blossom 3 and making the border from Spellbinders Fleur De Lis Accents . Once the branches were stamped using Memento and the flowers were colored with Copics (just in case the 3d flowers didn't cover everything) I stamped the sentiment found in the same Quiet Moments set. Fairy dust...hmmmm.... The dryer sheet technique worked very well. I covered the stamped card with a used dryer sheet (spray adhesive was used to attach the dryer sheet to the card) and then liberally sprinkled Art Institute's glitter (color: Mimosa). Excess glitter was bushed away and then I began the process of constructing the card. The flowers (directions below) were glued to the branches, the little girl's bow was pop dotted to her dress, the two sets of wings were put together and "ruffled" for a 3d effect and attached to the little girl's back with a tiny seed pearl . Now she is a fairy and she chose to climb up and settle on a branch to keep a watchful eye on things!
     Note: I made the flowers by using the smallest die from Blossoms 3 and cutting the flowers from white tissue paper. I used Lumin Arts paint in various shades from light pink to dark pink to color each flower shape. While wet, I placed it on the end of the paint brush and pinched and swirled to obtain the desired shape. They were then set aside to dry before attaching them to the card. Liquid Pearls was applied to the border punch to add a sheen to that element of the card.
   It is finished and I hope viewing this card will provide you a Quiet Moment and give you a time of reflection for all that is beautiful in your life.

********Kalidescope of Spring Color JustRite 052

More than a card! I was inspired with the colors of JustRite's 052 challenge (buttercup yellow, soft apricot, spring green, violet blue with a splash of brown) to create this card/gift. Headbands for babies with big flowers are very poular these days and I love card making. So, I made this presenation card to surprise my daughter/grandaughter. She can wear the headband and the card goes in her scrapbook. To make the card I first created the paper by blending yellow, apricot, green and violet blue watercolors on a piece of white watercolor paper. When the paper was dry, I stamped/masked/stamped the background design using JustRite's Kalidescope rubber stamp. The headband was made with a piece of peach elastic lace and a two-tone yellow/dark peach silk flower. A Spellbinders Label 20 was cut from violet blue cardstock, which was then covered with Sakura Crystal Lacqer and lightly sprinkled with with Art Institute crystal glitter. A smaller Labels 20 was then cut from a light yellow paper, I sponged a bit of light blue ink (Stampin Up) and using JustRite's Special Occassions 50 point font to create the sentiment. (and isn't she a pretty baby!) . The finishing touches - brown chipboard flourish, peach dew drops, and two tiny violet blue pearls were used as accents. Then, as soon as it was made, I gave the card to my daughter and grandaughter was happy to model her new wardrobe acquisition. How fun!

Before my week turned topsy turvey (please say a prayer for my gravely ill grandaughter who has been in ICU for a week) I thought of all the kindnesses received from friends and family. Besides making cards, I enjoy creating a floral landscape in my front yard. A neighbor often provides me cuttings from her garden. With this Just Rite challenge - an act of kindness/thank you I thought to create a "May Basket" to leave on her door. I created the basket using a double folded flower cutout that I surrounded with an eyelet ruffle. I covered the base with a floral patterened paper and outlined it with a bit of May Arts gold cord. A dull red scalloped circle was placed in the center and (look closely) embellished with "stitching". I used blue Imaginisce and Prima flowers and 2 blue rhinestone swirls to create my garden. Tucked into my basket is a packet of Morning Glory seeds (we enjoy sharing a cup of coffee in the morning sometimes) and a card which thanks her for her friendship. The card uses May Arts ribbon, Dew Drops, paper rose, and Just Rite stamps (than you and flower on patterned paper). A hanging tag complete this RAK using Just Rite stamps (border and sentiment), Tim Holtz acyrlic tag, Copic Markers and May Arts ribbon.

************Flowers Sparkle

I love satin and glitter; lace and sparkle! Spring flowers and gardens. Just Rite and Joan's Garden -challenges mixed with the MoJoMonday design layout inspired this card. One of my favorite techniques is image stamping on a piece of acetate, then painting the design with glitter and that is how I began using a Just Rite's Plant a Little Love Set stamp. Using Spellbinders circles and scallop circles I layered the flower. Note the border design on the light pink paper was made using the tiny little stamp from Just Rite's You Inspire Me. Doesn't it make a perfect frame for the glittered flower! If you look closely a tiny seed pearl accents the space in the border stamp area. The accents on the pink scallop and the defining lines for the paper placement were made using (oh my gosh did I really do that?!) by cutting up a lacey headband that "was" supposed to be given to my grandaughter (my bad!). The pink flower and the pink "paper" layer were created by crocheting a length of May Arts satin ribbon. A flourish of crystals and oh, did I mention the beautiful paper from K and Company. A personally created card deserves a personally created envelope, and with a beautifully embossed piece of wallpaper, a couple of coordinating embellishments (I'm loving making ribbon roses these days!) ......... Welcome Spring!

Add a strip of silk ribbon, a couple rows or lace, a double silk bow, a ribbon rose, and a handmade stickpin. The sentiment on this card (Have a Fabulous Birthday) is from JustRite's You Inspire Me set. I placed it on a circle punch and created shine and dimension by using Sakura Crystal Lacquer. With a matching decorated envelope here is a Spring birthday card for a special lady.

JustRite's challenge 050 this time is birthday or spring. SoooooooI wondered if I could create a card to combine the two. Starting with layers of white and black cardstock, I then embossed a top white layer. I made a pearl accent to put in the center of the large red bow using a "ribbon slide". Using JustRite's Happy Birthday to You (I masked off the 'to you' part) from the 10 Designer Centers and Borders collection; I stamped it on a white oval paper that I'd edged with black ink. Now how did the Happy Birthday get shiny? After stamping it with red, I rewrote the words with a thin line of white, dries clear glue! I lastly edged some paper flowers with black and dropped a seed pearl in the center. With a matching envelope...if it is your birthday...this card is for you!
